NIL at the Intersection of College Sports and Social Media

According to a report by Statista, in the 2019-2020 academic year, the total revenue generated by the NCAA from corporate sponsorships and licensing was $1.1 billion. This includes revenue from sponsorships, licensing agreements, and other forms of brand partnerships.


The NIL rules have only been in effect since July 1, 2021, so there is limited data available on the topic. However, it is expected that the spending on NIL marketing will increase as more brands take advantage of the new opportunities to partner with college athletes.


Another report from Influencer Marketing Hub predicted that NIL marketing could become a $2 billion industry by 2025, with brands and businesses of all sizes looking to partner with college athletes to promote their products and services.


Overall, it is clear that NIL marketing has the potential to become a significant industry in the coming years, with brands looking to tap into the reach and influence of college athletes to promote their brands and connect with younger audiences.
